The short version
- You can use our apps for what they're built for. Don't try to copy, decompile, or republish them.
- Some apps are subscriptions, some are one-time purchases, some are free. Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) handle in-app payments; when you buy a plan on one of our websites, Paddle is the reseller and handles the payment.
- Anything you create in the app is yours — we don't claim it.
- The apps are tools, not professional advice. Decisions you make using them are yours.
- This is an indie operation. We do our best, but the apps are provided "as is" with the standard limitations of liability set out below.
1. Who you're agreeing with
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") form a contract between you and ZaatarLABS ("we", "us", "our"), the trading name of Omar Al Homaidi, an independent software developer based in the United Arab Emirates. They apply when you download, install, or use any ZaatarLABS-published app on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android, when you use The Smart Billing on the web at billing.zaatarlabs.com, and when you use the website at zaatarlabs.com.
The apps currently in scope are: The Smart Dentist, The Smart Billing, The Smart Coach, roCARD, My Pizza Calculator, The Smart Hand Calculator, The Smart Trix Calculator, The Smart Budget, and The Smart Padel. Future ZaatarLABS apps are also covered unless they ship with their own separate terms.
By installing or using any of our apps, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't install or use the apps.
2. The stores' terms apply too
Our apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and, for some apps, Google Play. Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement ("Apple EULA") also applies to your use of the apps. If anything in these Terms conflicts with the Apple EULA, the Apple EULA wins. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the apps or their content — but is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you get an app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to that download and to purchases made through Google Play.
3. Your licence to use the apps
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use each app on devices that you own or control, as permitted by the store you got it from, and to use The Smart Billing on the web in your browser.
You must not, and must not let anyone else:
- copy, modify, translate, or create derivative works of any app, except as the Apple EULA explicitly allows;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of any app, except where applicable law expressly permits this notwithstanding our prohibition;
- remove, obscure, or alter our name, logo, or any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices;
- distribute, sublicense, rent, lease, or sell the app, or use it as part of a service offered to third parties;
- use the app to build a competing product, or to scrape, mine, or otherwise extract data from it for training a machine-learning model;
- circumvent any technical limitations, security measures, or licence checks in the app.
4. What it costs
4.1 Subscription apps
The Smart Dentist, The Smart Billing, The Smart Coach and The Smart Budget are offered as auto-renewing subscriptions through the Apple App Store. The current pricing and term length are shown on the App Store listing and in-app before you confirm any purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- Your subscription renews automatically for the same term unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Apple charges your Apple ID for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can review, manage, or cancel your subscriptions at any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions or in the App Store app under your account.
- On Android, subscriptions bought through Google Play are charged to your Google account and managed in the Play Store app under Payments & subscriptions, on Google Play's terms.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- Free trials, introductory offers, or promotional pricing (if any) are described on the App Store listing and in-app at sign-up. If you don't cancel before a trial ends, the subscription will start at the regular price.
Buying on our websites. Some of our apps can also be bought on a ZaatarLABS website; every such order is processed by Paddle.com, our online reseller and merchant of record, under Paddle's Buyer Terms, and our Refund Policy applies. Today that is The Smart Billing:
The Smart Billing on the web. The Smart Billing's yearly plans (Basic and Pro) and its Lifetime plan can also be bought at billing.zaatarlabs.com; monthly plans are sold only in the App Store and Google Play. Those orders are processed by Paddle.com, our online reseller and merchant of record: Paddle sells you the plan, charges your payment method, collects any sales tax or VAT, and handles billing questions and refunds, under Paddle's Buyer Terms. A web subscription renews automatically for the same term until you cancel it; you can cancel it, resume it, or change it at any time from Settings → Subscription on the web, or with the link in any receipt email from Paddle, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Whichever way you buy it (App Store, Google Play or the web), one plan unlocks The Smart Billing on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web, under your account.
The Smart Budget Pro is sold as monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscriptions, plus a separate one-time Lifetime purchase (see 4.2). All three plans unlock the same Pro features (currently: Smart Insights story cards on the Insights tab, all advanced reports, and household sharing with your family). The free version of the app remains fully functional for capturing transactions, basic budgeting, basic goals, the dashboard, the anomaly Notable card, and the Spending-by-category, Income-vs-spending, All-transactions, and Anomalies reports.
All Smart Budget Pro plans support Family Sharing — one purchase covers up to six family members in the same Apple Family group, at no extra cost.
4.2 One-time purchases
The Smart Hand Calculator and The Smart Trix Calculator are sold as one-time purchases through the App Store. The Smart Budget Pro Lifetime tier is also a one-time purchase that grants permanent access to all Pro features and never renews. Once you've bought any of these, you can re-download them on any Apple device signed in to the Apple ID that made the purchase, in line with Apple's family-sharing and re-download rules.
4.3 Free apps
My Pizza Calculator and roCARD are free to download and use. We may add optional paid features in the future, but the existing features will not retroactively be put behind a paywall.
4.4 Refunds
Refunds follow the place you bought from:
- App Store: Apple handles refunds under its standard policy. Use Apple's Report a Problem page.
- Google Play: Google handles refunds under the Google Play refund policies.
- Our websites (today The Smart Billing on the web): you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of any web purchase; see our Refund Policy. Paddle processes the refund.
We don't take card payments ourselves. If you have a problem with the app itself, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.
5. The data and content you put in the app
Anything you create or enter inside our apps — patients, clients, invoices, business cards, transactions, calculations, photos you attach — is your content. We don't claim any ownership of it. As described in our Privacy Policy, most of our apps keep it on your devices and in your own iCloud, and we don't receive a copy. The apps that work with an account (The Smart Billing from version 6.0, The Smart Padel, and The Smart Dentist on Android and the web) store it on our servers so it reaches all your devices and your team; it stays yours, we never use it for marketing, and you can export or delete it at any time.
You're responsible for backing up anything important to you. iCloud sync (when you turn it on) is one form of backup; standalone exports (CSV, PDF, share-out) are another. We are not liable for loss of data caused by device failure, deleted apps, iCloud issues, or anything else outside our control.
5.1 When we keep your records for you
The Smart Billing (from version 6.0) and Smart Dentist for Android, with its web app, keep your records on our servers (Smart Dentist on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and its web app for them, keep the clinic in your own iCloud). When those records are about other people, such as your clients, patients or customers, you (or your business) are the controller and ZaatarLABS processes them for you, as your processor. These terms are our agreement for that, including under the EU and UK GDPR (Article 28), and you accept them by using these apps with an account:
- What and why. The records you and your team enter (for example your clients' names and contact details, bills, payments and the pictures you attach), only to provide the app to you: storing them, keeping them the same on your devices and for your team, and the features you use. For as long as they are in your account.
- Your instructions. We process them only as you instruct by using the app, unless the law requires otherwise; if it does, we tell you first unless the law forbids it.
- Confidentiality and security. We access them only to keep the service running, when you ask us to, or when the law requires it, and anyone who does is bound to keep them confidential. They are encrypted in transit and at rest, and each record is open only to the people your business gives access.
- Sub-processors. Cloudflare, Inc. hosts our servers, stores the records and pictures, and sends the apps' emails. A business or clinic in the European Union or the European Economic Area is stored in the EU. Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google are handled by Apple and Google under their own terms. We will update this list before adding or replacing a sub-processor; if you object, you can export your data and delete your account.
- Transfers. ZaatarLABS is based in the United Arab Emirates. Where the law requires it for records from the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (controller to processor), with the UK addendum where it applies, are part of this agreement.
- Helping you. You can answer most requests from the people in your records (to see, correct or delete their data) in the app. Where you can't, we help you, and we help with security and data-protection assessments where the law asks.
- Breaches. If we learn of a personal-data breach affecting your records, we tell you without undue delay, and within 72 hours where we can, with what we know and what we are doing about it.
- At the end. When you delete a record, a business or your account, we delete it from our servers; copies in backups are gone within 30 days. Export your data first if you need to keep it: tax and record-keeping laws may require you to keep your invoices for several years.
- Checks. We give you the information you need to see that we meet these terms. Write to support@zaatarlabs.com.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use any ZaatarLABS app or this website to:
- break the law of the country you are in or transmit content that does;
- store or process information about other people without the legal right or consent to do so;
- infringe anyone else's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
- upload material that is unlawful, abusive, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or harmful to minors;
- attempt to disrupt, probe, or attack our infrastructure or any service the app relies on;
- impersonate someone else or misrepresent your relationship with them.
- keep protected health information covered by the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in The Smart Billing: it is not designed for that, so healthcare providers and others covered by HIPAA must not store their patients' health information in it.
If you use The Smart Dentist, The Smart Billing, or The Smart Coach to manage records of your patients, clients, or customers, you are the data controller for those records. You're responsible for collecting any consents you need from those individuals, for following the rules of your profession or jurisdiction (record-keeping, confidentiality, data-protection law, including any rule on where your records must be stored), and for keeping your device secure. For the apps that keep your records on our servers, section 5.1 sets out how we process them for you.
7. The apps are tools, not professional advice
Our apps are productivity, CRM, finance, and calculation tools. They are not medical devices, accounting platforms, legal advice, or financial advice. Outputs the apps generate — including dental charts, treatment-plan summaries, invoices, reports, profit calculations, and budgets — are working aids based on the information you enter. You remain solely responsible for the professional, clinical, financial, or business decisions you make using them. Always cross-check important figures before you act on them, and consult an appropriately qualified professional when you need professional advice.
8. Updates and changes to the apps
We may update the apps from time to time to add features, fix bugs, improve performance, or stay compatible with new versions of iOS. The minimum supported iOS version may change in future updates. We don't promise to keep updating any specific app forever. If we ever decide to retire an app, we'll do our best to give reasonable notice on this site or in-app, and the App Store re-download rules and your iCloud copy of the underlying data are unaffected.
9. Termination
You can stop using any app at any time by deleting it from your device. Your subscription, if any, runs until the end of the current period (manage cancellation in the App Store).
We may suspend or end your licence immediately if you materially breach these Terms or use the app in a way that creates legal or security risk for us, for Apple, or for other users. If your licence ends, you must stop using the app and (if relevant) delete it.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the apps and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the apps will be free from bugs, that any defects will be fixed, or that any specific feature will continue to be available.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ZaatarLABS will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the apps or website, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Where our liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the apps is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have actually paid to Apple for the app in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD 50.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold ZaatarLABS harmless from any third-party claim, demand, or loss (including reasonable legal fees) arising from (a) your use of the apps or the website in breach of these Terms, (b) your violation of any law or third-party right, or (c) the records and content you enter into the apps about other people.
13. Intellectual property
The apps, the website, the ZaatarLABS name and logo, the names of each app, and the look and feel of each interface are the property of ZaatarLABS and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to our trademarks or branding beyond the limited use needed to use the apps as intended.
14. Third-party services and links
The apps and the website may include links to, or interact with, services we don't operate (Apple, the App Store, Apple Wallet, iCloud, public exchange-rate APIs, WhatsApp, your email client, and so on). We're not responsible for those services, their availability, or their terms; your interactions with them are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
15. Privacy
Our collection and use of information are described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Effective" date at the top of this page and, where reasonable, post a notice in-app or on this site. Your continued use of the apps or website after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you don't agree, please stop using the apps.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates and, as applicable, the laws of the Emirate of Dubai, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms that the parties cannot resolve informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Dubai, UAE — except that we may bring proceedings to protect our intellectual property in any court of competent jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a country whose mandatory consumer-protection laws give you additional rights, those rights are not affected by this clause.
18. General
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a right immediately, that doesn't mean we've given it up.
- Assignment. You can't transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a corporate restructuring or sale of the business.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Apple EULA, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the apps and the website.
- Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translation is provided for convenience only; the English version controls.
