From the procedure to the invoice
Start with the procedure you have recorded for the patient. Review the procedure details and amounts before creating an invoice. A treatment estimate is not a payment receipt, and a recorded procedure is not necessarily already billed.
The billing view helps you see the financial status of the records in your app. When a payment is received, keep the corresponding payment information up to date so the displayed balance remains useful.
Review the practice picture
Patient balances answer one question: what remains outstanding? Reports answer another: what does the recorded activity look like across the practice?
Smart Dentist includes revenue, profit and expense reporting, with PDF and CSV exports. Those reports depend on the completeness and accuracy of what you enter. A report based on incomplete expenses should not be treated as a complete accounting picture.
Choose the right scope
This workflow is for organizing recorded procedures, invoices, payments and expenses. Do not assume an insurance-claims connection or a jurisdiction-specific tax integration from a general billing feature. Check any required integration directly before replacing an existing system.
