In the Gulf, a lot of business runs in two languages. A client in Dubai may want the invoice in English, a client in Riyadh in Arabic, and both of them want it on WhatsApp, not in an email they'll read next week.
The Smart Billing is an invoice app for iPhone that works fully in Arabic, right to left, and in English. You build the invoice on your phone and send the PDF from the same screen.
In short
- Invoices, receipts and quotations as PDFs in Arabic or English.
- With VAT on: your VAT number, the client's tax number, the taxable amount and the VAT on each line, under a Tax Invoice heading.
- Your own VAT rate, typed in, so 5% or 15% both work.
- Shared to WhatsApp or Mail straight from the invoice.
- No account and no login. Free for your first 2 clients.
Step by step
- Set up your business once. In Settings, add your business name, logo, phone, email and currency, then your VAT rate and VAT number under Tax. They go on every invoice from then on.
- Add the client. Type the client in or bring them in from your contacts. If they are VAT-registered, add their tax number.
- Build the invoice. Add line items with quantities and prices, a discount (a percentage or a fixed amount) and a due date. The VAT is worked out on each line.
- Choose the language. The PDF follows the app's language. In Settings → Language, pick العربية for an Arabic invoice or English for an English one; switch back whenever you like, and the same invoice comes out in the other language. Item names and notes appear as you typed them.
- Send it. Open the invoice and share the PDF to WhatsApp, Mail or any other app from the share sheet.
What a VAT invoice shows
When a VAT rate is set, the PDF becomes a VAT invoice. It shows:
- the heading Tax Invoice in English, or فاتورة ضريبية in Arabic;
- your VAT number and the client's tax number;
- the taxable amount and the VAT amount on each line, and the totals.
You type in the rate and the numbers yourself, so the layout works wherever you charge VAT. Check with your accountant or tax adviser which details your invoices need. Smart Billing creates and sends invoices; it does not file returns or submit anything to a tax authority. VAT Export in Reports gives your accountant each invoice and a VAT summary as PDFs.
After you send it
- The invoice sits on the client's account as due until you record a payment, in full or in part. How to track unpaid invoices.
- If the client paid a deposit, log it as an advance and it comes off their later bills.
- Recording a payment gives you a PDF receipt to send back.
